Shanghai is
currently the largest economic & transportation center in China. The city
covers an area of 6.340km2 (0.06% of China's total territory). By then end
of 2007, the population of Shanghai is at 18.58 million. It has a GDP of USD129
billion in 2006. The city has
maintained a double-digit growth in GDP since 1992, with an average annual
growth rate during the 1990-2004 period of 12%. In 2007, Shanghai
has overtaken Hong Kong to become the world's second largest container port
handling 26.15 million containers. According to a report by Forbes
magazine in 2008, Shanghai is the fourth-tallest city in the planet due to the
number of tall buildings it has. As of April 2010, Shanghai has 420km of metro
lines divided into 11 lines (236 stations). This will be extended to 500km,
